Summer Internship 2022

May 2022 – August 2022

I am writing to express my gratitude for the invaluable internship experience I had with SG Cash Pte Ltd. My name is Sarah Lee Jia Yu, and I am a fresh graduate from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Degree of Bachelor of Business with a Specialisation in Banking & Finance with a Minor in International Trading. I had the privilege of interning as a Credit & Risk Management Intern during summer of my second year of study in NTU in 2022.

I learned about SG Cash Internship Programme in Credit & Risk Management through NTU’s Nanyang Business School (NBS) Career Day, and I am grateful for the opportunity to experience this internship programme. From day one, I was welcomed warmly into the team and given the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects.

Throughout my internship, I had the chance to work on a variety of projects that allowed me to apply and expand upon the skills I had learned in my academic studies. I appreciated not only gaining a deeper understanding of the industry but also the experiences and insights I gained from the internship that went beyond the walls of the classroom. Whether it was reviewing case studies with the relevant documents, attending site visits, or engaging in discussions to understand different perspectives on a judgement case, each task challenged me to grow professionally and personally.

One aspect of the internship that stood out to me was the company culture. The supportive and collaborative environment fostered by the team made every day enjoyable. I felt encouraged to ask questions, seek feedback, and take initiative, which greatly enhanced my learning experience.

I wholeheartedly recommend SG Cash Pte Ltd’s Internship Programme as it provides not only industry knowledge but also hands-on experience as a Credit & Risk Management Officer.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to the Managing Director, my supervisor, and colleagues for the unforgettable internship experience. Their guidance and advice not only helped me navigate my responsibilities as an intern but also provided valuable insights into the industry and potential career opportunities.

I am writing this to provide a testimonial for SG Cash’s internship programme. As a Year 2 Business undergraduate in Nanyang Technological University (NTU) specialising in Risk Analytics, I had the chance to join SG Cash Internship Programme in Credit & Risk Management in Summer 2022.

I was first introduced to the company during Nanyang Business School’s Career Day. Through the sharing session by SG Cash, I believed that the internship would provide me with an invaluable experience to complement my studies as a Risk Analytics major and it would be the right step for me to start off my career in the risk management industry.

Overall, I was able to acquire knowledge that was beyond the walls of a classroom. The internship had provided me with hands-on experience and real-life applications in learning more about loan approvals and credit policies.

I was able to take a deep look at the nature of different businesses in different industries (such as beauty, F&B, construction, and many more) due to the wide range of clientele that the company serves. Besides, I also had the opportunity to attend site visits and participate in meetings with clients.

Throughout the internship, I reviewed 27 cases of loan applications and learnt to:

  • Perform due diligence on the financial health of guarantors and the company by conducting QuestNet Enhanced Individual Search and Enhanced Instant Search.
  • Assess loan applications and review documents like Credit Bureau Report, Notice of Assessment, bank statements and financial reports to evaluate the credit risk of applicants.
  • Recommend potential loan packages and prepare credit approval memos and loan agreements upon successful application.

I highly recommend SG Cash’s internship to others in view of the robust programme and the supportive guidance from the Credit & Risk Management team.

Winter Internship 2022

December 2022 – January 2023

I am Chen Tin, I started my exciting journey with SG Cash in November 2022 when I was a second-year Business Degree student from Nanyang Business School at NTU.

The pathway leading to this enriching experience began at the NBS Career Fair, where I had a conversation with Mr. Kenneth Koh, the Managing Director of SG Cash. Kenneth shared with me about the business and his motivations of having the internship programme which was both inspiring and inviting. It was this initial engagement that convinced me to apply, marking the start of what would be an immensely rewarding chapter in my professional journey.

What stood out to me about the course was its comprehensiveness and structured layout. The programme was meticulously designed to cover all bases – from an in-depth understanding of SG Cash’s business model and product offerings to the intricate processes governing credit and risk management. Senior employees, who are stalwarts in their respective fields, conducted the courses which provided a rich learning experience. The highlight for me was the hands-on exposure. The opportunity to meet with clients and directly engage in business activities offered practical insights and real-world experience that textbooks simply could not provide.

One of the key learnings was analytical skills, learning to evaluate borrowers’ creditworthiness and analyse financial statements with a critical eye. Besides, I learned about business acumen, enabling me to appreciate the nuances of the business environment and industry-specific risk factors. Perhaps most importantly, my communication skills saw considerable improvement. The programme taught me to articulate credit risk analyses, decisions, and recommendations with clarity and conviction, a skill invaluable in any business context.

Reflecting on my journey with SG Cash, I am wholeheartedly enthusiastic about recommending their Credit & Risk Management course to others. The unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience it offers is unparalleled. The genuine enthusiasm and openness of the Managing Director and senior management to share knowledge and mentor us interns were particularly striking.

I am Guan Min, a current penultimate Business undergraduate at Nanyang Technological University. I joined the SG Cash’s internship programme as a winter intern in my first year in Dec 2022.

While attending a career fair in school with a general direction to look for 1st-year internship openings, I came upon SG Cash’s booth. Curious to learn more, I spoke to Evelyn, a senior manager in SG Cash, about the role and its structured internship program in credit.

The internship with SG Cash provided an opportunity to interact with clients through site visits and interviews. These were especially memorable as the clients came from different industries and finding out about their operations and challenges was particularly insightful as an intern.

Beyond the technical skills of reviewing documents like a credit report and bank statements, communication was a fundamental skill learnt. Prior to a site visit, it was necessary to prepare for the interviews. It was also important to be tactful during questioning.

SG Cash is a warm and welcoming environment to gain experience in the field of credit risk analysis. I highly recommend the internship to my peers considering exploring credit risk.

My name is Chua Han Yu Jeremy. I joined SG Cash as a Winter Intern in December 2022. I am a student of NTU and I am currently a Year 3 student studying Banking and Finance. I got to know about the SG Cash Internship programme via a Career Fair organized by my university.

I enjoyed the opportunities for hands-on learning provided by the Company. The company also assigned us a full-time employee to guide us through the process of learning credit and risk management. The Company provided past cases as case studies to learn from and even set aside time to go through such cases to highlight to us what we can improve on for our analyses. In addition, the company also took interns to go to site visits for actual ongoing cases. They were very open to receiving input from interns and also let interns manage actual cases. This gave the interns a sense of fulfilment as we felt like we were actually making an impact.

I have learnt basic analyses of financial and legal documents, tax documents as well as financial statements. I was also introduced to the Credit and Risk management industry and how they manage prospective cases.

I would recommend this course to others. I firmly believe that this course provides a very insightful experience to those who lack experience in the field of Credit and Risk management. The company provides a conducive learning environment and the experience of the staff will benefit both the experienced and inexperienced.
