Summer Internship 2026

May 2026 – July 2026

I am writing to share my heartfelt gratitude for the experience I gained during my Summer Internship at SG Cash as a Credit and Risk Management Intern at SG Cash Pte Ltd. My name is Heng Qian Le, and I am a Year 2 student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Double Degree in Accountancy and Business.

Coming in, I had limited exposure to how credit decisions are actually made. Looking back now, I realise how much that has changed. Through case reviews, site visits, and director interviews, I slowly built an understanding of what it really takes to assess an SME. We do not just read financial statements, but we also need to read the business behind them. We reviewed over 20 loan applications, joined more than 10 site visits, and helped organise 3 team events. These were real cases with real implications for the SMEs involved, and that trust pushed me to take my work seriously from day one.

I remember how long a single case review used to take me, and how many small details I missed simply because I didn’t yet know what to look for. But with time, patience, and honest feedback from my supervisors, I found myself growing more capable with each case. I became more thorough, more curious, and slowly, more willing to sit with uncertainty instead of shying away from it. I think that shift was one of the most important things I took away from this internship.

By the end of the internship, I gained sharper critical thinking in connecting information across multiple documents, a more holistic way of evaluating an applicant’s financial position, business performance, and industry outlook, and a much deeper appreciation for how varied and unique each SME’s situation truly is. This internship gave me technical knowledge, confidence in my own judgment and a genuine interest in credit and risk as a career path. I’m deeply grateful for the experience, and I’ll be carrying these lessons forward.

None of this would have been possible without the team at SG Cash. I’m especially thankful to the employees in SG Cash for their patience, mentorship, and willingness to guide us through every case, question, and mistake along the way.

I would like to express my appreciation for the internship experience I had as a Credit & Risk Management intern. Coming into the role, I expected to pick up technical knowledge about SME financing, but what I didn’t expect was how much the experience would shape me beyond that. Over the course of the internship, I was given real exposure to credit risk work: reviewing loan applications, joining site visits, and sitting in on interviews with business owners. Being trusted with the responsibility of approving their loan application made the work feel genuinely meaningful.

What stood out most was the huge diversity of industries I got to engage with, including F&B, education and transport. Each application offered a different window into how businesses operate, the pressures they face, and the resilience required to keep them afloat. Learning to assess creditworthiness across such varied contexts pushed me to sharpen my instincts, ask better questions, and connect financial data to real business realities.

Beyond the technical learning, it was truly the people who made this experience special. My supervisors were super welcoming from day one, placing a remarkable amount of trust in our work and giving us real ownership over what we did. They were endlessly patient and understanding, always willing to walk us through any questions that we may have without ever making us feel like a burden. Their encouragement gave me the confidence to take on tasks I initially found daunting. Beyond the mentorship, they were really fun to be around, and working alongside them made for some genuinely good memories that I’ll carry with me long after the internship ends.

Looking back, this internship gave me a much deeper appreciation for the balance between human judgment and financial analysis, and for the weight that comes with lending decisions. I am leaving with sharper analytical skills, but also with a genuine sense of gratitude for the trust and guidance I was given. This was an amazing internship, and I couldn’t have picked a better one to kick off my career. I definitely recommend this internship to anyone looking for a genuinely substantive and rewarding experience.
