Summer Internship 2024

May 2024 – July 2024

I am writing to express my gratitude for the insightful experience I have gained from SG Cash. My name is Bryan Low Jun-Ren, a penultimate student in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business with a specialization in Banking and Finance. I first learnt about SG Cash Summer Internship through Nanyang Business School (NBS) Career Day and was fortunate to intern as a Credit and Risk Management intern during the summer of my second year of study in 2024.

My internship at SG Cash was an invaluable experience that equipped me with a solid foundation for a career in finance. I was immersed in a dynamic environment where I had the opportunity to work on diverse case studies that deepened my understanding of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) landscape in Singapore.

One highlight was delving into in-depth case studies. These real-world challenges sharpened my analytical skills and allowed me to apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting. We were allowed the opportunity to handle a diverse range of cases from pre-schools to pastry makers, providing us with meaningful insight into the SME landscape in Singapore.

I was fortunate to be involved in client site visits, which gave me firsthand exposure to the vast SME landscapes in Singapore. In total, we handled 20 different case studies, went down for 9 site visits and conducted 3 interviews within the 10 week period.

The supportive atmosphere at SG Cash fostered my growth. Mentorship from experienced colleagues was instrumental in developing my skills and boosting my confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend an internship at SG Cash. It’s a place where you can learn, grow, and make a real impact.

Winter Internship 2024

December 2024 – January 2025

My time at SG Cash has been a truly insightful experience as a Year 2 Business student specialising in Banking and Finance. I first learned about this internship program through NBS’s Career Day, where I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Kenneth Koh. He highlighted the technical skills and hands-on learning I would gain as a Credit and Risk Management intern, which immediately piqued my interest.

During my internship, I worked with diverse clientele across industries such as shipping, beauty, and childcare. This exposure broadened my understanding of risk assessment by allowing me to analyse businesses with varying operational dynamics. Over the five weeks, I gained invaluable insights into credit evaluation and risk assessment. I explored the key mandatory documents required for loan assessments and learned to evaluate cases with a balanced approach, weighing both qualitative and quantitative factors. Additionally, I had the opportunity to conduct site visits where we interviewed clients to better understand their businesses and identify potential red flags.

The supportive company culture at SG Cash was especially heartwarming. It provided me with the ease and confidence to seek advice from colleagues and ask questions without hesitation. I was fortunate to be mentored by Hong Ting and Evelyn, whose guidance, practical insights, and constructive feedback were instrumental in refining my skills and enhancing my ability to navigate challenges effectively.

This internship has been a significant step in my journey toward a career in finance. I am deeply grateful for the mentorship and support provided by the team, which made my experience both enriching and rewarding. I would wholeheartedly recommend this internship to peers seeking valuable exposure and experience in credit and risk management.

I am Gwyneth Chow, a Penultimate Year Business undergraduate at Nanyang Technological University, specialising in Risk Analytics. I am writing to express my gratitude for the invaluable learning experience I gained during my Winter Internship at SG Cash as a Credit and Risk Management Intern. I joined SG Cash to understand the field of risk in the finance industry and learn skills beyond the technical knowledge acquired in school. SG Cash provided the platform for me to dabble into credit risk, introducing me to another career pathway.

From the outset, I was immersed in a comprehensive and hands-on learning environment. The structured internship programme allowed me to understudy various facets of credit and risk management, such as assessing and approving loan applications, preparing loan agreements and repayment plans, and conducting in-depth credit reviews. One of the most memorable aspects of my internship was the site visits and interviews. These experiences introduced me to the operations and financial challenges faced by clients across diverse industries. I learned to navigate these interactions professionally, sharpening my communication skills and building my confidence in front-facing roles.

The mentorship I received at SG Cash was exceptional. The supportive environment fostered my growth in both the technical and personal aspects, giving me the opportunity to speak with seniors with a vast range of experience. I am greatly appreciative of my supervisors who created an environment for us to take ownership of my tasks, balancing close guidance and independence.

I’m William Neo, a final-year NTU student pursuing a double degree in Accountancy and Business. This winter, I had the privilege of interning at SG Cash, an exempted corporate lending company, where I gained invaluable insights into the credit risk and management field.

During my time at SG Cash, I developed a solid understanding of the five key documents essential for assessing SME loan applications: NRIC, Credit Bureau Singapore (CBS) reports, Notices of Assessment (NOA),  financial statements, and bank statements. Through detailed case studies, I applied this knowledge to evaluate the feasibility of extending loans to businesses, which deepened my analytical and decision-making skills.

Beyond the technical aspects, the internship was incredibly fulfilling on a personal level. One of the highlights was organizing and participating in a CSR event at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital. Together with my fellow interns, we brought Christmas cheer to elderly residents by hosting games, crafting sessions, and even dressing up as festive characters. Celebrating the holidays with them was both heartwarming and humbling, leaving a lasting impact on all of us.

The work culture at SG Cash stood out for its warmth and inclusivity. Kenneth, our CEO, was exceptionally generous with his time and knowledge, sharing candidly about his experiences in the industry and hosting us for a memorable farewell dinner. Our managers, Hong Ting and Evelyn, were equally supportive, always eager to mentor and guide us. Their expertise and willingness to share insights into credit and risk management made the learning experience immensely enriching.

Looking back, this internship was not just a learning opportunity but also a journey of personal growth and connection. I am deeply grateful to SG Cash for the welcoming environment, the skills I’ve gained, and the memories created. I leave this experience inspired and better equipped for my future endeavors.

Thank you, SG Cash, for an unforgettable winter!
